College of Medicine’s Policy on Visiting Faculty Appointments

Due to the current budget constraints, state funded visiting positions for faculty in the College of Medicine may be extended up to 3 years.

In support of research opportunities enabled by the federal economic stimulus package, the 3-year term limit has been extended to 5 years for those contract/grant (soft-funded) visiting positions requiring a 5-year commitment.

Faculty whose permanent appointment is pending review of a senior rank (associate professor or professor) in all tracks, both tenure and non-tenure, must undergo a full review by the appropriate college committees within 1 year of their initial access and equity-approved appointment. During that period, the appointment status will be termed “provisional” pending approval of rank and/or tenure by the college and campus.
