Staff Recognition

Celebrating one another serves to strengthen our community and inspire our best work!

Kudos Logo

Kudos is a College of Medicine staff recognition program created to acknowledge and celebrate the essential contributions of staff members across the College of Medicine’s three campuses. Kudos provides a simple, timely, and meaningful way to express appreciation to staff for work that supports our missions of education, research, clinical care, and service, and is rooted in our core values of excellence, integrity, collaboration, accountability, diversity, equity and inclusion, communication and customer service.

Kudos is designed to complement existing staff recognition efforts by highlighting everyday excellence, collaboration, professionalism, and behind-the-scenes contributions that may not otherwise receive formal acknowledgment.

To celebrate a colleague for embodying these principles and/or a job well done, you are encouraged to  submit a Kudos!

If you see great work happening in your area—or benefit from the support of colleagues in another unit—consider submitting a Kudos. Recognition is open to everyone and takes only a few minutes to share!

This annual event in spring is a chance for our staff to have some fun with co-workers and enjoy delicious food, photobooth contests, games, awards, raffles, and prizes.  This celebration was created in support of the College of Medicine’s Strategic Plan; born out of a commitment to valuing our people. A play on words, the event was named as such in recognition of our College of Medicine (COM) community. This event is also where the Dean’s Excellence Award winners for the year are recognized.

These annual awards recognize and honor outstanding Academic Professional and Civil Service staff for their performance, dedication, leadership, and exemplary contributions to the missions of the College of Medicine’s Chicago campus. Award recipients receive $500 and are announced and honored at the annual COM-unity Staff Celebration in spring.

UIC has a long and cherished tradition of recognizing it’s employees for outstanding merit and years of service. The campus honors these achievements at the annual Employee Recognition Award Ceremony held each November. Staff are eligible for the Award of Merit, the Chancellor’s Academic Professional Excellence (CAPE) Award, the Rising Star Award and the Janet Watkins Award and must be nominated by a supervisor or leader
