UIPG is amultidisciplinary collective of U of I physicians and providers representing 17 clinical departments (Anesthesiology, Dermatology, Family & Community Medicine, Emergency Medicine, General Surgery & Surgical Subspecialities, Internal Medicine and Medical Subspecialities, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Orthopedics, Pathology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Radiology, and Urology).

Governed by a Board of Directors, UIPG is responsible for the University of Illinois College of Medicine (UIC COM) clinical practice activities.

In practicing the University of Illinois College of Medicine’s (UIC COM) mission to advance health for everyone through outstanding education, research, clinical care, and social responsibility, UIPG endeavors to improve community health by delivering comprehensive quality health services to the underserved and under-resourced communities.

UIPG Relationships

In partnership with its clinical affiliates and other colleges, UI Health Enterprise strives to improve the quality and safety of clinical experiences, meet the individual patient healthcare needs of the diverse community populations that we serve throughout Illinois.

The academic health center hospital and primary teaching affiliate for UIPG is UI Health Hospital & Clinics, where shaping the future of healthcare through innovative and advanced clinical care is paramount.

Statement about UI Health Hospital Medical Staff:  All Full and Associate members of the University of Illinois Physicians Group are members of the University of Illinois Hospital Medical Staff. The purpose of the Medical Staff organization is:

  1. 1)  To provide a mechanism by which the Medical Staff may promulgate rules and regulations for governing itself, and reports to and is accountable to the Governing Board of the University of Illinois which is the University of Illinois Board of Trustees.
  2. 2)  To provide a statement of the rights and privileges of the Medical Staff and to provide mechanisms through which these rights and privileges may be exercised.
  3. 3)  To provide a formal mechanism through which the Medical Staff may advise administration on matters affecting patient care and vice versa.

4) To enforce the Medical Staff bylaws, rules and regulations, and policies by recommending action to the Governing Body in certain circumstances and taking action in others.

UIPG Membership Options: Full, Associate, Affiliate

Full Members of The Medical Service Plan (MSP) shall be full-time Faculty who must be bound by the terms of the MSP By-Laws upon acceptance of such appointment. Full-time Faculty means a position on the Faculty of the College as a full-time employee (1.0 FTE) of the University of Illinois or an affiliated Veterans Administration Medical Center or as a full-time employee of the University and any hospital with which the College has an agreement stating that such employees shall be members of the Faculty and UIPG of the College. Full Members have full voting privileges.

Associate Membership:

Associate Members of MSP are persons who do not meet the criteria for Fulltime Faculty outlined in Article II, Section L of the MSP By-Laws but who receive compensation from and render professional services through the University at a level of 50% or greater appointment. Associate Members are bound by the terms and conditions of these By-Laws. Associate Members have full voting privileges.

Affiliate Membership:

Affiliate Members of MSP are Faculty who have less than a 50% appointment.

UIPG History

To further the teaching, research, and public service missions of the University of Illinois, according to the authority granted to it by Chapter 110 Compiled Statutes, Section 330/5, the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago Physicians Group (the “UIPG”) was formed. The Medical Service Plan (the “MSP”) By-Laws were adopted to establish the procedures under which the Full Members and Associate Members of the UIPG shall establish:

  1. How the clinical practice is organized and administered.
  2. How professional fees shall be charged.
  3. How any charges so collected shall be disbursed.
