The University of Illinois College of Medicine is proud to partner with Nature, the world's leading multidisciplinary science journal to offer Nature Masterclasses, a premier online learning resource designed to support researchers at all career stages. Developed by Nature Research, these courses provide practical insights and expert guidance to help researchers improve their writing, publishing, and professional development skills.

IMPORTANT NOTE: 

Nature has launched a new on-demand platform as of March 30, 2026. All users are required to re-register within the new platform to access course content.

Please note that only completed courses and their associated certificates were migrated. Any courses that were not completed prior to the transition are no longer available for certification. The following courses have been discontinued: Writing a Research Paper, Publishing a Research Paper, and Writing and Publishing a Review Paper.

Featured Masterclass

Effective Science Communication

“Effective Science Communication” is designed to help researchers clearly and confidently communicate complex scientific ideas to a variety of audiences, including peers, collaborators, policymakers, and the public. Strong communication skills can increase the visibility, understanding, and overall impact of your research. In this 1-module course, there are 6.5 hours of learning, consisting of 10–30-minute lessons. Each lesson is designed to fit into your schedule, allowing you to learn at your own pace.

Members of the University of Illinois College of Medicine can access Nature Masterclasses through our institutional subscription.

If you encounter any access issues, please reach out using the form below.

 

First-time users

  1. Goto Masterclasses website
  2. Click on Register icon, search/select University of Illinois College of Medicine .
  3. Log in using your campus email address.
  4. Complete the registration form after logging in.
  5. Check your inbox for a confirmation email and click the link to verify your account. (If you don’t see it, check your junk/spam folder.)
  6. The verification link will lead you back to the Nature Masterclasses website where you will be automatically logged in. You are ready to explore the course pages and start learning!

Returning users

  1. Goto Masterclasses website
  2. Click on Login icon.
  3. You will be prompted to log in with your campus email address.
  4. Upon successfully logging in, you can proceed to the courses.

Note: Please do not attempt to log in using the regular/personal login. Use the Institutional Login only.
