Dr. Gloria Elam holds several leadership positions within the Department and the College of Medicine. She is Director of College of Medicine Urban Health Program and a member of the Medical Executive Committee.
Dr. Elam also serves as a Board Examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Elam’s excellence in teaching and clinical practice has been recognized with honors at both the university and national level. In 2013, Dr. Elam received the CREOG National Faculty Award for Excellence in Resident Education, for her exemplary work in promoting excellence in resident education in obstetrics and gynecology. In 2014, Dr. Elam received the College of Medicine OBGYN Faculty of the Year Award.
Dr. Elam’s clinical practice covers all aspects of general obstetrics and gynecology with a focus on menopause and fibroid management.
Dr. Elam has been awarded Castle Connolly Top Doctors® since 2013.

Constance Umbles-Sailers recently returned to UI College of Medicine after more than a decade working for a State agency. Ms. Umbles-Sailers previously served the College in the role of Assistant Dean of the Urban Health Program and designer/Co-Director of the College’s Post-baccalaureate Admission Program. Over the years in State government, Ms. Umbles-Sailers gained human resource and labor experience, serving as a Director of Human Resources. Ms. Umbles-Sailers also worked in the Office of Access and Equity at the University of Illinois.
As the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Ms. Umbles-Sailers collaborates, coordinates, and serving as a proactive, creative facilitator throughout the institution for diversity-related initiatives, activities, materials, advice and counsel. She helps provide leadership with the development of a college-wide strategic diversity action plan and serves as a resource and consultant to students, staff, faculty, and partners within UI COM and the University of Illinois to facilitate inclusive and equitable learning and work environments. Ms. Umbles-Sailers has a wealth of experience in recruitment, therefore, she will help develop and collaborate with the College’s efforts and initiatives designed to enhance the recruitment and successful retention of faculty, staff, students and trainees from diverse and underrepresented population groups. Ms. Umbles-Sailers’ philosophy is to promote working toward an optimal learning and working environment where all people feel that they are equitably seen, heard, and respected.
