While the curriculum is the same across the three campuses, the student experience varies greatly by location. Local culture and student dynamic plays a part in the development of student activities and organizations.
It is an inherent belief in our College that a quality student experience will lead to student success. The College Committee on Student Experience evaluates the effectiveness of student support services and oversees the assessment of the student experience for medical and graduate students. Areas the committee focuses on include:

The mission of the College-wide University Medical Student Council (UMSC) is to support and promote the collective interests of the medical students of the University of Illinois College of Medicine. We do this by fostering communication and cooperation among the three campuses.

The College of Medicine has a longstanding record of providing access to excellent medical education for students from diverse ethnic/racial groups, religion, sexual orientation, physical condition, and age. In fact, the College has one of the most diverse student bodies of any medical school in the US. Our leadership in regards to individuals from ethnic/racial groups that are underrepresented in medicine continues to be recognized. In its “Top 100 Producers” ranking for 2008, Diverse Issues in Higher Education ranks University of Illinois College of Medicine at #1 for Hispanic graduates and #5 for African American graduates.
Similarly, in its annual rankings for 2008, Hispanic Business magazine ranked UI COM among the “top 10 medical schools for Hispanic students.”
UI COM continues to support the compelling goal of diversifying the physician workforce to produce professionals that can address the healthcare needs of the state and the nation.
