Kelley Volpe, MD Named Associate Dean for Admissions

Kelley Volpe, MD, has been named Associate Dean for Admissions of the University of Illinois College of Medicine. As Associate Dean for Admissions, Dr. Volpe will work collaboratively with the Committee on Admissions, admissions leadership, faculty, and staff across all campuses to continue strengthening an already outstanding admissions process. Her approach emphasizes holistic review, alignment between institutional mission and student goals, and thoughtful use of data to support student success.

Dr. Volpe currently serves as Program Director of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship, Medical Director of the Pediatric Stress and Anxiety Disorder Clinic, and Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry. She brings extensive experience in medical education, trainee recruitment, and learner support to this role. As a program director, Dr. Volpe has led holistic, mission-aligned recruitment efforts and has been deeply engaged in longitudinal trainee development and mentorship.

In addition to her leadership in graduate medical education, Dr. Volpe has been actively involved in undergraduate medical education and student support across the College of Medicine. Her clinical and educational work with medical students through the UIC Resiliency Center has provided valuable insight into the factors that contribute to student success, well-being, and professional development. She is also a current member of the College of Medicine Committee on Admissions.

Dr. Volpe graduated from Yale University with a degree in Psychology. She then completed her medical degree, psychiatry residency, and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of Illinois Chicago and has been on faculty since that time. She is board-certified in Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She is currently completing a UIC Master’s degree in Health Professions Education. Her scholarly work focuses on medical education, trainee development, and inclusive training environments.
