Life Friendly Policies
The FAAC-DEI has advocated for and will continue to advocate for Life Friendly Policies at UIC. Within the College of Medicine, FAAC-DEI works to increase awareness of these policies and assure adherence to them is consistent across departments.
The recently revised website of the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (http://www.uic.edu/depts/oaa/policies_proced.html) provides links to all of the policies listed below.
- Tenure Rollback
- Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
- Sabbatical Leave
- Partner Accommodation
- Domestic Partnership Benefit
UIC Faculty Diversity Efforts
Underrepresented Faculty Recruitment Program (UFRP)
This policy provides funding for departments to hire women and under-represented minority tenure-track faculty if their department is under the UIC-determined availability proportion in their field.
Leadership Activities
As outlined by the Provost, one of the 12 activites of a Dean is : ”Foster and promote gender equity and ethnic diversity among students, faculty and staff to enrich the university environment.”
Faculty Activities
In the guidelines for Promotion and Tenure Papers, candidates and Executive officers are encouraged to include information on the candidate’s contribution(s) to promote equity or diversity at UIC in terms of gender, race/ethnicity and ability status. For example, in teaching this could be participation in the Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) offered by the Graduate College; in service this could be participation in the WISEST initiative.
