International Applicants

The University of Illinois College of Medicine (UI COM) invites mission-aligned international students to apply. We review each application holistically. Please read the requirements below before applying.

Canadian Applicants Heading link

  • Canadian applicants are considered international students
  • Canadian applicants do not need to upload proof of visa to the Secondary Application Portal.
  • Canadian applicants who have completed a bachelor’s degree in Canada, do not need to meet the minimum 32 credit hours from a US degree granting institution that is required of other international applicants.

Non-Canadian Applicants Heading link

  • International applicants with a degree from outside the US must have at least 32 credits worth of coursework from a degree granting institution in the United States.
  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree; if your bachelors degree is not from the US, it must be evaluated through WES.
  • International applicants who are residing in the US must have legal status in the US and proof of legal status must be uploaded to the “Document Upload” section of the Secondary Application Portal.

Permanent Residents (Residing in or outside of the United States) Heading link

  • Permanent Resident applicants with a degree from outside the US must have at least 32 credits worth of coursework from a degree granting institution in the United States.
  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree; if your bachelors degree is not from the US, it must be evaluated through WES.
  • Must upload to the “Document Upload” tab of the application portal their proof of  currently valid permanent resident card.
